Life Story for Ruth Elizabeth "Betty" Walz

Ruth Elizabeth Walz, better known as Betty, a long time resident of East Quogue, L.I.,N.Y. and most recently of Youngsville, North Carolina passed away on October 17, 2015 at the age of 88. Born in Westbury, L.I., N.Y. on February 24, 1927, she was the daughter of Henry Louis Luhring and Ruth Malcolm Baldwin Luhring.

Betty graduated from Westbury High School and worked for a time for her grandfather, George Washington Baldwin at his coal yard in Westbury. On June 2, 1946 Betty married Kenneth Peter Walz, Sr. at St. Ignatius Catholic Chruch in Hicksville, N.Y. She and Ken then traveled to Pensacola, Fl where he was staioned with the Navy.

Betty worked for a number of years at the East Quogue Elementary School as a teacher's aide and worked until she was 70 as a secretary for Mendenhal Fuel Company.

She was an avid sports fan. Her greatest love was Nascar racing. She also enjoyed baseball and wrestling as well as golf and tennis. She was fond of cats and nurtured many over the years.

Betty is survived by five children: Patricia Lynn Rose, Pamela Ann LaRocco, Kenneth Peter Walz, Jr., George H. Luhring and Kenneth Richard Walz and two deceased infant girls Mary Ann and Kathleen. Also survived by nine grandchildren: Peter, Kristin, Bethany, Justin, Matthew, Robbie, Evelyn, Whitney, Ryan and nine great grandchildren: Willow, Daniel, Gideon, Bri Ahna, Mallory, Samuel, Boston, Max and Sophia.

Betty will be laid to rest at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, L.I.,N.Y. on Ocober 23, 2015 alongside her husband Kenneth P. Walz, Sr. and their two infant children, Mary Ann and Kathleen.
