Louis Ortiz, Jr., aka Hawkeye, passed peacefully in his sleep, at home on Sunday, January 1, 2017 after a short battle with liver cancer. He was 69 years old.
Louis Jr, son of Louis and Celia Ortiz was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 5, 1947. He graduated from Easton District High School in Brooklyn, NY. Louis served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War.
Louis married Doris Acevedo on October 9, 1971; they were married 45 years.
Louis worked as an accounts receivables and adjustments clerk for Biddle Purchasing Company from 1969 - 1972; Pitman-Dreitzer/Division of Lancaster Colony Glass Corporation from 1972-1978; Effanbee Doll Company from 1979-1986; Irving Commercial Corporation Subsidiary from 1986-1988; DellWood Milk Company from 1988-1996; and Sher-Del Transfer from 2004-2016. He enjoyed reading the Daily News newspaper, watching mostly New York baseball and basketball teams, playing lotto, and listening to music, especially Salsa.
Louis is survived by his wife, Doris, three children, Jason, Josefina, and Janice; his eight grandchildren, Ruben, Jules, Jordan, Peyton, Alexander, Jaden, Jaslene, and Ryan; step-grandchildren, John, Louie, Joseph, Mira, Tatiana, and Nico; his sisters, Edna, Elsie, Evelyn, Emily, Eva and Eleanor; his brother, Reggie; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Ortiz Sr. and Celia Ortiz; as well as his brother, Edwin Ortiz.
