Life Story for Mary DiFede

Mary was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 4, L935. She was the oldest of two children born to
Catherine and Joseph Gentile. Early in her life, Mary lived with her Gentile grandparents on Central
Avenue.

Living across the street from Mary's grandparent's house, she would meet and later marry her
sweetheart Thomas DiFede. After the prom, where Mary asked Tommy to take her best friend Felice,
the couple started courting. They would go for walks on the boardwalk, eat Chinese food and ice cream,
and spend their weekends together while Tommy served in the Army. After 5 years together, the couple
set a date and were married on September 29, L956.

After their marriage, the couple lived in Canarsie, where Joni was born in 1958 and Kathi in 1960. Having
two children and expecting a third they moved to Hancock Street. ln 1961, they welcomed their son Joe
into the family. Thirteen years of laughter, family and friends were spent on Hancock Street.

ln 1973, they moved to the top of the hill, in Glendale. Tommy was working for UPS, while Mary worked
at Phelps Time Lock. ln L974 Mary's sister, Toni moved next door with her husband Vinny and their
three children, Lisa, Vinny and Raymond. Between the two houses there was always noise, parties and
many memories.

ln January 1984, Joni gave birth to Mary's first grandchild Victoria, two years later, Mary welcomed her
first grandson Edward. ln 1988, Mary once again became a proud grandparent with the birth of Katelyn,
Kathi's first child. Three years later, her youngest grandchild, David Jr., was born. AII of Mary's
grandchildren were a great source of joy and pride for her.

ln their retirement, Mary and Tommy traveled to many places. They would visit Tommy's sisters, Bea
and Marion in Florida, travel to Texas to spend time with Mary's maid of honor Felice and her husband
Harold, as well as, travel to Las Vegas, California and the famous Villa Roma in upstate NY. ln 2002, Mary
and Tommy got to experience ltaly with their grandchildren Victoria and Edward. Celebrating their
50th wedding anniversary, Tommy and Mary went back to their honeymoon spot Niagara Falls. They
made many trips to Atlantic City, where Mary would always lose money and Tommy would always win!

Throughout the years, Mary has celebrated many special occasions. ln November, at the engagement of
her grandson Edward to Romina, Mary got to enjoy herself with her family. Mary was known for her
wonderful cooking, encyclopedia knowledge and sharp tongue. Advice and support were always readily
given. She will be missed by everyone -especially her family.
